CM to Celebrate ‘Gruhapravesam’ With Indiramma Illu Beneficiaries

In a major move to boost his government’s popularity ahead of the upcoming panchayat elections, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is all set to personally inaugurate ‘gruhapravesam’ (housewarming) ceremonies for thousands of families who received new Indiramma houses.

Along with Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, the CM plans to kick off the celebrations by the end of this month, highlighting the government’s focus on fulfilling its promise to provide affordable housing to the poor.

Plans for ‘Gruhapravesam’ Celebrations

The chief minister will attend a housewarming event in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. While the exact location is yet to be finalised, sources suggest that similar ceremonies will be held across various districts before the official announcement of panchayat election dates. Local leaders, MLAs, and ministers are expected to organise their own events in their respective constituencies, creating a wave of celebrations across the state.

Progress of Indiramma Housing Scheme So Far

The Congress government has allocated a whopping ₹22,500 crore for the Indiramma housing scheme, covering all 119 assembly constituencies in Telangana. This ambitious plan aims to ensure that even the poorest families get a roof over their heads.

As CM Revanth Reddy proudly mentioned, “After 10 years of Telangana’s formation, the ‘people’s government’ is finally fulfilling the dream of owning a home for the poor.”

In the first phase of this scheme, 3,500 houses have already been sanctioned per constituency, reflecting the government’s commitment to its promise. The scheme is not just about building houses but also about empowering tribal communities, especially those living in forest areas.

Achievement in Indiramma Illu Housing Scheme

For the first time, Indiramma houses have been allocated to Chenchu tribals living deep in the forests. Previously, no government had considered the housing needs of these marginalised groups. CM Revanth Reddy, who hails from the Nallamala forests himself, expressed his empathy, saying, “I understand the hardships faced by tribal communities. We have sanctioned 22,016 houses in four ITDA areas to bring them into the mainstream.”

This move is seen as a significant step toward inclusive development, ensuring that even the most remote and vulnerable communities benefit from government schemes.

Targets for Indiramma Housing Scheme

Housing minister Srinivas Reddy shared that the first phase of the scheme aims to complete 4.5 lakh houses by 2028. Each beneficiary is set to receive a ₹5 lakh grant in stages, along with free supply of sand to speed up construction. The focus is on making the process smooth and beneficiary-friendly.

Construction Plans and Challenges

In Hyderabad’s Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, due to land scarcity, houses will be built as three-storey buildings, making efficient use of limited space. Elsewhere, independent houses are still part of the plan. So far, the government has sanctioned 3.68 lakh units, with over half of them (1.96 lakh) already grounded or completed.

While work is progressing rapidly in districts like Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, and Mahbubnagar, some districts, such as Nirmal, Vikarabad, and Narayanpet, are facing slow progress, according to officials. The government has directed officials to expedite work and ensure that beneficiaries are assisted at every stage.

The upcoming housewarming ceremonies are not just about celebrating new homes but also about showcasing the government’s commitment to inclusive development and rural empowerment. With the elections around the corner, these events are expected to boost the Congress party’s image by highlighting its efforts to improve the living conditions of the marginalised sections.

Final Thoughts

Telangana’s Indiramma housing scheme is gaining momentum, with thousands of families set to receive their new homes soon. As the government pushes ahead with construction and celebrations, it aims to turn the dream of homeownership into reality for many more families across the state.
