The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana was launched in Uttarakhand in the year 2015. Since then, numerous families in the rural and urban regions have been provided financial assistance to build their permanent dwellings.
As per the official record, around 13,570 projects have been completed under Beneficiary-Led Construction or improvement (BLC), along with 2,700 under Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), and 20,000 under the Credit-Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS).

The primary objective of PM Awas Yojana is to make housing affordable for all citizens. The speciality of PMAY is that people living in both village and urban regions can get the benefit of this scheme.
Benefits of PM Awas Yojana in Uttarakhand
For PM Awas Yojana-Gramin
The beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana generally get financial assistance of ₹1.2 lakhs. But for remote and hilly areas like Uttarakhand, the financial assistance is ₹1.3 lakhs for constructing a pucca house.
New houses constructed under this scheme will have 2 rooms, but you can extend the number of rooms at your own expense.
You can also opt for 100 days of employment for house construction under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to get an additional benefit of ₹18,000.
The government also provides financial assistance of ₹12,000 to construct a toilet under the Sauchalay Sahayata Yojana.
So, if you opt for all the options mentioned above, the total amount you’ll receive in your bank account will be around ₹1,60,000.
For PM Awas Yojana-Urban
For urban areas, the beneficiaries are provided with a loan amount to construct, buy, or make improvements to their existing house, based on their income status.

Eligibility
The following are the eligibility criteria for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana:
- Applicants should not own a permanent/pucca house in their name or in the name of any family members.
- PMAY gives preference to women as the head of the household.
- Priority is given to the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).
- For PMAY-G, special provisions are made for individuals belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Minority communities.
To avail of a home loan subsidy under PM Awas Yojana-Urban, beneficiaries are grouped under four categories based on their annual income:
- Economically Weaker Section (EWS): Annual income of less than ₹3 lakhs.
- Lower Income Group (LIG): Annual income of ₹3 to ₹6 lakhs.
- Medium Income Group (MIG 1): Annual household income of up to ₹12 lakhs.
- Medium Income Group (MIG 2): Individuals with an annual household income of ₹12 to ₹18 lakhs.
The subsidies are available for owning, renovating, and even constructing additional rooms.
Who is Not Eligible
- Anyone with an annual family income of more than ₹18 lakhs is not eligible for this scheme.
- Individuals owning a pucca house anywhere in the country are not eligible to apply for the PMAY scheme.
- Families receiving benefits from central and state government-run housing projects are not eligible for this scheme.
Application Process
Application process for PMAY-U
- Visit the official portal: pmay-urban.gov.in
- Click on the ‘Apply for PMAY-U 2.0’ option.
- Scroll down and click on the Proceed button after the user instructions and document sections.
- On the following screen, enter your state, annual income, verticals, and other details to check eligibility.
- If eligible, a new screen will appear to enter your name and Aadhaar number.
- You will receive an OTP on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
- Enter the OTP to access the online form.
- Fill out the form and submit it.
Application process for PMAY-G
The application process for this scheme is straightforward. You can choose an online or offline process based on your convenience.
For PMAY-Gramin, there is no direct online application process for the applicant. However, the beneficiaries will be selected based on the caste census as notified by your panchayat office.
If you are left out of the survey and are eligible for this scheme, you can visit your panchayat office with all necessary documents to complete the application process.

You can also visit the PMAY-U tracking page directly and search for your application status by entering the beneficiary code or application number.
